Tree Close, Richmond

Objectives

This project KRS were enlisted to complete full roof replacements on all 12 properties at Tree Close, an age-exclusive community in Richmond, Surrey, built in 1975.

The homes, which are solely powered by electricity, struggled to retain warmth and were costly to heat due to allow EPC rating. Housing association, PA Housing, identified them as ideal for solar panels to bring down the cost of heating for those living there. This would also contribute to their long term scheme to make their homes more sustainable to run. The end result is 12 new roofs, completed with Marley SolarTiles.

Solutions

Marley SolarTiles were specified as they are supplied as a complete kit, with no need for extra battens, adhesive flashing or fireproofing materials, However, when it came to the rest of the roof, the initial specification insulation and roof tiles were unavailable due to product shortages. KRS have an excellent relationship with SIG who were able to source suitable alternative roofing products that matched the brief, and worked with Kingsley Roofing to supply them as needed.

Each monocrystalline-black Marley SolarTile has an output of335Wp and is suitable for new-build and retrofit projects alike. Easy to fit, they average an installation time of 45minutes per kW (3 panels), and can enhance any roof system with design flexibility, sleek aesthetics, industry leading wind and fire performance, and are backed by a 10-year manufacturers guarantee.

The alternative products that were specified included Knauf Insulation Earthwool and Kingspan Thermapitch TP10insulation, specified to compliment the project’s overall sustainability and energy saving agenda, and Crest DoubleRoman roof tiles.
